The documentary series is an audiovisual product produced by Legrand which was born with the idea of inspiring and highlighting the art, design, colour and lighting of architecture in projects in the Latin American region, Ecuador and the Caribbean.
Gabriel Solís in charge of the editorial portrait project that presents the most important architects of Latin America with their most significant works. In the trailer we see the first 4 chapters and more artists from different countries will be added in the coming months.
Through the compilation of testimonies and visions of representatives of the architecture of each country, the series seeks to convey to the audience an experience of sensations, which at the same time, as well as entertaining, serve as a source of knowledge of the different techniques and trends in architecture and urban planning in each region.
The real challenge of the project was to use lighting that was as easy to transport and install as possible and that could be adapted to a wide variety of circumstances. We had to adapt the production to a short time management with very different conditions and locations.
It was therefore ideal for outdoor shoots to use the Siros L kit with 2 light sources. This meant that the same kit could always be used to set up an outdoor set with a black background, which is also easy to transport and can be quickly charged overnight with its batteries. Which, by the way, never ran out 😉.
The best thing about using these lights is not only how easy they are to transport, but also how unobtrusive they are, according to one of the architects. The aesthetics of the luminaires can be felt as part of the architectural environment.
Both medium format digital photography and medium format analogue photography were used in the project. As such, post-production work was minimal. The most time-consuming part of the project was the process of developing and scanning the film.

Gabriel Solís is a professional advertising photographer and professional director of photography in Costa Rica. In his photographs he integrates elements that portray life and the people involved. He is a two-time recipient of the Sony World Photography Award (2014, 2016).
